“We’re Unique But Not Alone.” BizBuddyHub Gets B Corp Accreditation

BizBuddyHub is delighted to announce it has just been named a Certified B Corporation, joining over 2000 social business enterprises around the globe working to make the world a better place.

For the Victorian-based Collaborative Marketplace that empowers locals in the fastest growing outer-metro areas to connect, collaborate and grow, the move towards certification was a natural evolution.

Using a mix of peer-to-peer networking, coworking, technology and under-utilised local resources, the company seeks to create and support sustainable work environments in outer-metro growth corridors and regional areas.

B Corp certification is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee. B Corporations represent an emerging group of companies using the power of business to create a positive impact on the world and generate a shared and durable prosperity for all.

“When we started BizBuddyHub to create holistic solutions to help build stronger local economies, we always intended to get B Corp certification,” explains Sara Mitchell, BizBuddyHub Founder.

“We firmly believe business should be focused on achieving good outcomes for people and the environment and that the social enterprise movement should be a blueprint for all businesses – not just a nice to have on the side,” she adds.

The business has officially met the non-profit B Lab’s rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency, including evaluating how its practices impact employees, the community, the environment and customers.

During the certification process, BizBuddyHub scored particularly highly around community for its new generation, inclusive engagement model that hybridises business and community groups.

“An inclusive, collaborative culture is one of our key values, as is our commitment to buying local and making an active choice to support local businesses and under-utilised resources,” Sara explains.

“We designed our business model to focus on local issues and solutions while also being connected globally, so being a B Corp fits in nicely with our mission,” Sara explains. “It also helps us ensure we’re aligned with our values, accountable and always measuring our impact.”

Achieving certification was a tough process, forcing BizBuddyHub to focus on fine-tuning its business model and adopt new systems and measurement tools around impact and governance.

“It was quite a big ask from a bootstrapped, time-poor start-up,” Sara says. “But we knew it was a vital step for us.”

BizBuddyHub customers and suppliers can now be sure they’re part of a supportive and collaborative community that is giving back and providing Peer2Peer support that will grow the local economy and enhance social cohesion at the city’s fringe.

The non-funded for profit and purpose driven business has joined over 2000 Certified B Corporations in over 40 countries working to solve social and environmental problems, proving its business model is unique but not alone.

“We’re proud of our sustainable and scalable business model, and the fact that we always nurture collaboration over competition,” says Sara. “Being a B Corp gives credibility to our social business model and identifies us as part of a movement working to change the world for the better.”
