I’m an Accountant, The Tax guy, with a wacky sense of humour, some would call me a clown but I prefer entertainer. I have always lived a good distance away from work in my 15 years of working in Melbourne. It was never an issue. You see, I wasn’t married, didn’t have kids and did not live in the West.
About 7 years ago, I moved to Point Cook with the family and I encountered the Westgate Bridge. The road that stops a thousand cars. I was the only one in my South Yarra office that travelled from the West (Turkey), as they called it. I had to drop the kids off at 7:30 am to reach office at 9 if I was lucky or lunchtime if someone had run out of petrol on the bridge that day.
Something had to give, three hours of my day sitting in traffic; For what? When I set up Caliyan Associates as a side project, a client told me to check out local community groups on Facebook where a lot of work was being picked up. Cynically, I joined. What’s the worst that could happen? I’d just leave the group right? Right. 200 clients later, I think it was probably the best move I could have made. Gradually, I reduced my days at the job because having local clients allowed me to. The patronage was phenomenal. Whenever someone asked for a good, affordable accountant, I was getting tagged. Finally, last October, I bit the bullet and Caliyan Associates is now my full time gig.
I have always been a big believer in giving back to the community that supports you. Build the eco-system, grow your client base. This is why I support BizBuddyHub. The concept was born of similar roots and frustrations and values – it’s not a new idea, but it’s a novelty in the West. There are many micro-businesses being set up here and mostly without due consultation. That’s where I come in. Through BizBuddyHub, you can use mine (at least where the numbers are concerned) and others experience and expertise to assist you in what you need to do in order to be successful.
